The story of five Union soldiers and a dog who escape Civil War Richmond by stealing a hot air balloon. A great storm blows them to an uncharted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. There, they apply their scientific knowledge and technical skill to create a civilization for themselves. Along the way, the castaways' complications are always mysteriously solved. Will they discover the secret of the island?
